I am sure that devoted Red Sox fans are upset that Kevin Youkilis was not chosen to play in this year’s All Star game. Yet it is not the first time that a Jewish first base slugger has been unfairly passed over for this mid-season ritual. Hammerin’ Hank Greenberg, Hall of Fame Jewish slugger, was also ignored in 1934, 35, and 46.’
Rest assured that there is a potential light at the end of this slighted tunnel. The years that Greenberg was overlooked for the All Star teams were the same years-1934 and 35’-that the Detroit Tigers won the pennant and left the Yankees to dream of next year. Of course there were not playoff series back there during the Golden Age of Baseball.
Just be happy Youk is getting a good rest and hopefully can help our beloved Red Sox rise again and beat those damn Yankees.
