Aviva Kempner to speak at Jewish Baseball Retreat

From June 29th to July 1st, Aviva Kempner will join a distinguished list of presenters in the Berkshires at the Isabella Freedman Jewish Retreat Center. The topic is the intersection of Judaism and baseball and it will be discussed from a “spiritual, social and historical” point of view.

Other speakers include two rabbis (Rebecca Alpert and Michael Paley), several writers, two former major leaguers (Bob Tufts and Elliott Maddox) and Ira Berkow, who appeared in the Ciesla Foundation’s film The Life and Times of Hank Greenberg and was a principal script consultant on that film.

Ms. Kempner, director of The Life and Times of Hank Greenberg, will reminisce about that film and present some entertaining never before seen footage from it. This and other footage is part of a re-release of the DVD of Hank Greenberg that is planned for 2013.
